2016 Toyota Fortuner Revealed at RM133k in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2016 Toyota Fortuner has been launched after a number of leaks and spyshots in Thailand. This Hilux-based seven-seater SUV is in its second generation, which has been redesigned with a new sleeker look. This new car has been provided with a range of new engines.

The design was already seen in the spy-shots revealed in March. The front-fascia has a forward-looking characteristic, and houses a pair of slim headlights with a heavily-chromed grille occupying the center. The SUV's bold looks have been enhanced with a chiselled bumper and some chrome lines placed under the grille.

Optional 18-inch wheels are covered in 265/60 rubber, that give a stronger posture to the new Fortuner. In addition, the bending belt-line, and blacked-out pillars provide it a “floating roof” look. Equally slim and LED equipped tail lights complete the rear look.

The interior is designed in very good quality, and has a sophisticated-looking upright dashboard design with synthetic leather. A three-spoke steering wheel, taken from the new Hilux Revo, and a Camry-style Optitron instrument cluster ensure that the interiors can easily be judged as an offering from Toyota. Instead of folding flat into the floor, the third row seats can be flipped to the body-side to liberate more boot space.

Similar to the Hilux Revo, two new GD turbodiesels power the lineup. The 2.8 litre 1GD-FTV produces 177 hp at 3,400 rpm and 450 Nm from 1,600-2,400 rpm, while the other 2.4L 2GD-FTV exhales 150 HP and 400 Nm of torque. Variable nozzle turbocharging and common-rail diesel injection has been continued from the current 2.5 and 3.0-litre options. There is an auto start-stop facility provided with the 2.8-litre, that aids fuel economy. A 2.7-litre petrol mill is provided as well, which is light in weight and has Dual VVT-i fuelling technology, improved combustion and less friction. It gives 166 hp at 5,200 rpm and 245 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
