2018 BMW i3 with a new high-performance S model revealed
KUALA LUMPUR: It has been proved multiple times that electric vehicles are not just restricted to offer efficiency, they are also capable of unleashing the highest level of performance. Tesla and Formula E have already set a benchmark in high performance and now, after BMW i8, the German automaker has finally revealed its 2018 i3 with a more sporty variant, i3s in the same league.
The new variant gets a number of tweaks with A-pillar and roofline painted in a glossy black finish. The bumpers are now wider to give a bolder stance while a matte-black U-shaped accent around the horizontal LED turn indicators improve the sporty quotient in an effective manner. At the back, the 2018 BMW i3 gets horizontal chrome strip and badges are now moved towards the edges to utilize the wide stance in an appropriate manner. The updated i3 will be available in two colour options which include Melbourne Red metallic and Imperial Blue metallic.
The cabin is kept intact and has hardly changed over the outgoing model. It is wide and spacious with a clean and uncluttered dashboard. In the Giga World trim, the users will now get Giga Brown Leather and Carum Spice Grey wool cloth seat surfaces. It also boasts the latest iteration of BMW iDRIVE interface that is accompanied with a 10-inch touchscreen with higher resolution. The voice recognition feature now uses cloud-based speech processing that further improves the efficiency to a great extent.
The new offering is the sportier version of this green car which houses more powerful mill than the standard i3. The 2018 BMW i3s delivers a maximum power output of 184 hp and peak torque of 250 Nm. The other differences include unique springs in the suspension, dampers, anti-roll bars and 20-inch alloy wheels. It also gets different exterior accents and blue seat belts to mark the difference.
Clocking 100 kmph mark from naught takes just 6.8 seconds in the i3s which is 0.4 seconds less than the standard version. So, with 2018 i3s, you get more fun and thrill without compromising on the efficiency front. The updated i3 and i3s are expected to make their global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September with pricing being announced around its launch in different markets.
