2018 Nissan Leaf global debut scheduled for September 6, 2017

KUALA LUMPUR: The Japanese automaker, Nissan released the teaser of its upcoming Leaf a couple of weeks back and now, we have its global debut date as well. Nissan has announced that the 2018 Leaf will be revealed on September 6 and will be available in a number of markets to improve its presence in the electric cars segment. However, the key highlight of the car is its self-parking capability which is done through the deployment of sonar cameras.

This capability is the part of Leaf’s Propilot suite that also includes a single-lane, semi-autonomous feature. With this, 2018 Nissan Leaf will be the most advanced autonomous model on sale from the house of Nissan. It will be also the most advanced and capable electric car in its segment with a range of up to 547 km, which is almost double than its predecessor. Comparing it with the sibling rival, Renault Zoe, the range is 145 km more which will also make it a segment leader.

The improvement in the range is a result of a new battery pack which might be twice as big as found in the current-generation Leaf. Considering the styling aspect of the upcoming Nissan Leaf, it shares a lot of bits with Micra. The differentiating factors are its sharp lines, aggressively sloping roof, and stooped nose. The manufacturer has adopted a new pyramid design philosophy which will be reflected in its 2018 Leaf. Though the car will arrive in the market by 2018, the Japanese car maker will be able to improve the EVs share in the global sales chart up to 20 percent by 2020.
