2019 Mazda MX-5 details revealed ahead of its launch
KUALA LUMPUR: The details about the upcoming 2019 MX-5 are out prior to its official launch that is scheduled to take place later this month. The new Mazda MX-5 reduces some weight, comes with the ability to produce more power and an increased rev limiter.
The 2019 Mazda MX-5 comes with a 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G naturally aspirated petrol engine that’s powerful than before, producing 184 PS of max power and 205 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. The power and torque of the outgoing version are rated at 158 PS and 200 Nm at 6,800 rpm respectively.
In addition, it gets new exterior colours, interior, and a steering that adjusts telescopically for reach and rake (height) - a welcome addition for tall drivers. It allows an adjustability range of 30 mm. On the safety front, it gets Smart City Brake Support that adds to its braking capabilities.
That is not it, the dome has been shaved-down significantly which makes the pistons lighter by 27 gms and also helps in increasing the rev limitation. The connecting rods have shed off 41 gms that makes up for a compact structure. Adding to it, the crankshaft has also been optimised. The air intake on the car has gone bigger, there’s 28% more scope of breathing for the engine.
As a result of piston revisions, the combustion mechanism of the car gets improved which in turn helps in better thermal efficiency and reducing emissions. The exhaust valves have become larger. The muffler has also been treated for reduced high-frequency noise. The rear suspension gets rubber bushes that are much softer than before.
All the details have come in from a Japanese publication called the Car Watch.
