2019 Renault Megane RS 280 Cup sets a new Sepang International Circuit lap time

KUALA LUMPUR: 2019 Renault Megane RS 280 Cup EDC has set a new record by completing Sepang International Circuit lap in just two minutes and 38 seconds during the Renault Sport Track Day organized by TCEC (TC Euro Cars).

Before starting the night session, the carmaker unleashed the new Renault Megane RS 280 Cup EDC to give viewers an idea of how fast the hatch is. And the car set up a new clock time by beating the previous-generation Megane RS 265 Cup with a margin of three seconds.

Apparently, the current Megane RS 280 Cup is more potent than its predecessor. It is equipped with a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which can churn out a maximum power of 280 PS along with a peak torque is 390 Nm. While its predecessor, the RS 265 Cup with a larger 2.0-litre turbo-four mill, provides a lesser power of 265 PS with 360 Nm of peak torque.

Besides, the new Megane RS 280 Cup comes with the brand’s own 4Control four-wheel steering system that helps improve the cornering efficiency. On the other hand, the EDC-equipped model gets launch control and Multi-Change Down functions in its Race and Sport modes.

The Renault Sport Track Day is only open for experienced drivers. First-time track drivers can also get a chance to drive it on the lap, but only with the help of a professional instructor.

The new Megane RS 280 Cup was launched in Malaysia. It is available with two different variants - manual gearbox option with a price tag of RM 279,888 and the EDC-equipped version, which costs RM 299,888.
