2019 Subaru Forester: Top alternatives
The 2019 Subaru Forester is a formidable SUV, to say the least. The compact crossover has been in production since 1997 and has been renowned for its versatility, reliability, and practicality. The outgoing model of Subaru Forester shares its architecture with the highly coveted and WRC- winning Impreza sedan.
In Malaysia, the Japanese car manufacturer offers its 2019 Forester in a lineup of 3 variants with prices starting at RM 139,788. This puts the Forester in close competition with offerings from fellow Japanese car manufacturers such as the 2019 Mazda CX- 5 and 2019 Honda CR- V. We will now compare the three utility crossover vehicles against one another to see which one has the potential to become a segment leader
Price comparison
The most expensive Forester model gets a price tag of RM 159,788. Unlike Subaru’s offering, both Honda CR- V and Mazda CX- 5 are offered in a wider variant lineup. The most expensive CR- V model is priced at RM 163,191 and the priciest Mazda CX- 5 model get a 2.5- litre turbocharged model which happens to be the most expensive variant in this comparison with prices starting at RM 181,770.
Power & performance comparison
The 2019 Subaru Forester can feel a little underpowered and it is the slowest of the three competitors and the sprint from 0 to 100 kmph takes 11.8 seconds. This is surprising considering the fact that Forester is not the heaviest crossover in the comparison and even the much heavier Honda CR- V manages to hit the hundred kmph mark in 11.3 seconds even when powered by its 2-litre non- turbo model.
Which is better?
The 2019 Mazda CX- 5 is available in a wide range of variants and has both petrol and diesel powertrains which are not the case with the 2019 forester. The Mazda CX- 5 also undercuts the pricing of Subaru forester with its more inexpensive variants.
The 2019 Honda CR- V is not as powerful as the Subaru offering and power figures suffer even more when compared to equivalent Mazda crossover. The Honda SUV still manages to be faster than the 2019 Forester when sprinting from 0 to 100 kmph and the 1.5-litre DOHC mill propels the car faster than the entry-level variant of the 2019 CX- 5.
Subaru Forester, on the other hand, offers impressive versatility, practicality, build quality and benefits from the brand’s lineage.
Is 2019 Subaru Forester a good car?
Subaru Forester benefits from having one of the best build qualities in the segment and bodes well for the Japanese carmaker’s reputation for building reliable, study and versatile cars. The 2019 Forester comes with a wide range of safety features which include pre-collision braking system,
adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management and lane departure and sway warning. The outgoing Forester model has been priced at a premium as compared to its immediate rivals although other offerings are available in different engine options and fuel types.
