2020 Honda Accord - What’s in stock?
Honda has launched the tenth-generation Accord in Thailand, and will soon bring it to Malaysia. Pre-bookings for the all-new Accord have started in the country with the official launch expected sometime during the first quarter. Known for its premium looks and upmarket interior, the current generation Accord comes with two high-displacing engines including a 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre petrol units. While Honda Malaysia has not revealed mechanical details for the 10th-gen Accord, it is estimated to be slightly powerful than the Thai-spec version. Set for a generation change, the new Accord is likely to receive radical changes, which could push the pricing a tad over the current model. There is still time before Honda reveals Accord price list at the official launch, here is a look at the expectations and changes that could be seen in the all-new Accord, read on to know more.
2020 Honda Accord Exterior
As mentioned in the beginning, the all-new Accord is already available in the Thailand market in both petrol and hybrid variants. The 10th-generation Accord receives radical changes over the predecessor with a new sweeping roofline adding to the premium appearance. It also sees dimensional changes measuring 10 mm shorter at 4,920 mm and 10 mm wider at 1,860 mm. Also, the roofline has been lowered by 15 mm, though it sits on a long wheelbase that has been stretched by 55 mm. Besides, the centre of gravity has been reduced by 10 mm. The list below mentions some of the key styling elements on the new Accord.
- Chunky alloy wheels
- Exterior door lighting
- Rear spoiler
- Full LED headlamps
- Full LED tail-lamps
It remains to be seen if the Malaysia-bound Accord will come with the above features or will it miss out on some amenities.
2020 Honda Accord Interior
Honda cars are known for their premium quality and plush interior laden with all modern amenities. The new Thai-spec Accord is no different as it brims with a long list of comfort and connectivity features including a sunroof, plush leather seat covers, 360-degree camera, Honda Smart Parking Assist System with auto parallel and perpendicular parking, four-point parking sensors at both ends and a lot more (based on variant). A large touchscreen infotainment unit with smartphone compatibility and a host of other connectivity features is also likely to be a part of the parcel.
2020 Honda Accord Specifications and Engine Details
Honda Malaysia is expected to ditch the current engines for a new 1.5-litre turbocharged i-VTEC unit, tuned to make 201 PS along with 260 Nm torque. This is the same engine which powers other Honda cars such as Civic and CR-V. In comparison, the Malaysia-spec Accord is expected to be 11 PS and 17 Nm more powerful than other regional markets. A hybrid variant is also available in Thailand, albeit it seems unlikely for the Malaysian market.
2020 Honda Accord Safety
The D-segment sedan was awarded an impressive 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating in crash tests. Akin to its predecessor, the 2020 Honda Accord is expected to benefit from the Honda Sensing safety suite which features lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist system, road departure mitigation, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation braking system. In addition to the aforementioned features, the tenth-generation Accord also comes with the low speed follow function. As for standard kit, the below-listed amenities are expected to be offered across the line-up.
- Six-airbags
- Anti-lock-braking system
- Electronic brakeforce distribution
- Vehicle stability control
- Emergency stop signal
- Front/rear parking sensors
- Emergency stop signal
2020 Honda Accord Price
With the above changes, the 2020 Honda Accord price is likely to be changed upwardly, though the official price list will be revealed at the launch in the coming weeks. As for the current version, it is available in two variants priced from RM 148,512 to RM 168,998.
The Honda Accord goes against its Japanese cousin, Toyota Camry, and with the new-generation model in the pipeline, it is expected to take the competition further. Hopefully, it will outshine its predecessor on several fronts, without impacting the pricing much.
