2020 Hyundai Sonata to debut at 2019 New York International Auto Show

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai has revealed some images of 2020 Sonata and it comes as a big surprise that the new car gets a revised design and drops the conservative look of the current model. The four-door coupe-like sedan will enter into its eighth-generation once it debuts. The upcoming Hyundai Sonata is based on the brand’s new design language 'Sensuous Sportiness', which was first seen in the Le Fil Rouge concept. The concept made its debut at 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

The car ditches the three-box appearance to adorn the four-door coupe styling. Coming to the front fascia, the vehicle gets a seven-point Digital Pulse Cascading grille that combines with the sculpted bonnet. The manufacturer has mentioned the LED daytime running lights as the Hidden Lighting Lamps, which are based on the HDC-2 concept. The headlamp design is also completely changed and it has a unique cluster design having four individual lighting elements.

Speaking of the side view, the car gets two distinct character lines that are placed between the lightly flared wheel arches. A long light strip connects the taillights clusters and both the reverse lights. The reflectors/fog lamps get the same position as well, while the number plate is placed in between the lamps. Hyundai has also revealed a photo of the car’s dash. It gets a winged shape and is inspired by a stealth aircraft. It has a large wide-aspect-ratio touchscreen above the slim HVAC vents that is a part of the infotainment system. Hyundai said that the designers of the 2020 Sonata have aimed to provide a “lightweight feeling” inside the cabin.

The manufacturer has announced that the new Hyundai Sonata will make its debut at New York Auto Show. Hyundai is also developing a "Digital Key," by which the users can lock or unlock and even start the car via their smartphone.
