2020 Jeep Gladiator images leak ahead LA Auto Show debut

KUALA LUMPUR: Jeep Wrangler pickup brethren, the Gladiator, is all set to be introduced at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show. However, its images are already making rounds over the internet, which drop a hint that the pick-up might get a five-door unlimited body style.

The styling of the 2020 Jeep Gladiator will be similar to its sibling, the Wrangler. The windshield becomes more classy, and the longer wheelbase assures that the cabin will get more space.

However, there are some differences between the Wrangler SUV and the Gladiator pickup as well. The pickup truck comes with a dual style front grille, and each of the sides gets huge vertical slats, while its SUV sibling, the Wrangler gets a seven-slat grill. Also, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator comes with fenders, which differentiate it from the other pickup trucks.

Jeep is famous for its off-road proficiency and following the legacy the Gladiator is offered in two all-wheel-drive systems - Rock-Trac and Command-Trac. Other features include a Trac-Lok limited-slip differential, Tru-Lock electronic front- and rear-axle lockers, a segment-first electronic sway bar disconnect, 33-inch off-road tyres, and third-gen Dana 44 axles.

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator comes with a payload capacity of 726kg while the towing capacity is 3,470 kg.

The manufacturer has not spoken about the powertrain department yet, while the pick-up is likely to get the same engine as the Wrangler. The SUV is equipped with a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine, which is capable of churning 285 hp along with a peak torque of 352 Nm. Either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic gearbox will be present to handle the transmission duties.

The Wrangler is likely to have a 3.0-litreEcoDiesel V6 engine in 2020. It will push out up to 260 horsepower and a 600 Nm of peak torque. The power will be sent down to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
