2021 MINI Convertible: Features that make it the perfect urban vehicle
In early June 2021, the MINI Malaysia lineup benefited from the brand’s latest hatch range, including the Cooper S 3 Door, 5 Door, and Convertible.
What’s interesting about the latest Cooper S trio is that their prices have gone up slightly, for instance, the 3 Door now retails for RM 253,319 (RM 250k previously), the 5 Door goes for RM 261,009 (RM 260k previously), and the Convertible is priced at RM 274,360 (RM 270k previously). If you are wondering, the prices mentioned above are inclusive of the SST exemption extended until December 31st, 2021.

Now, the big question is, what do the new and price models bring along? Well, along with a few exterior visual changes along with a few changes on the car's cabin and safety specs. Under the hood setup, however, remains unchanged, i.e., a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine making a maximum power of 192 hp along with a peak torque of 280 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch sports transmission.
Enough about the recent update, let's now get to the features that make the MINI Convertible a perfect urban car -
Creative space usage
Being a convertible one might worry about the spaciousness of the car. However, MINI's creative space usage offers more luggage space than one might imagine. Also, the Easy Load function (exclusive to the Convertible) makes loading all the more easy and fun.
With the top closed, it offers a generous 215-litre boot space, it comes down to 160-litre when the roof is open. Its 50/50 split-folding rear seat allows one to accommodate longer items like surfboards.
Furthermore, the boot space increases to 433-litres and 661-litre with 3- and 2-seat configurations.
Compelling design
The MINI Convertible offers a taut athletic presence via its dynamic lines, wide track, and short overhangs. The headlights look distinctive and are complemented by new eye-catching side scuttles that house LED indicators. Further giving the car a more sophisticated appearance are the Piano Black accents on the door handles, exhaust end pipes and fuel flap.
Maximum headroom
The MINI Convertible is equipped with a pretty much unique soft top that takes only 18 seconds to fully open/close even when the car is running at 30 kmph. Also, available is a sunroof mode wherein the roof slides back to 40 cm.
Modern features
The MINI Convertible gets the brand's latest Digital Instrument Cluster that replaces the conventional tacho. It gets a 5.0-inch colour display with a sleek Black Panel design. It offers the driver essential details like fuel level, revs per minute, speed, navigation, mileage, and temperature.
The car also gets MINI Connected which is a suite of intelligent functions, services, and apps that connect driver and passengers to the MINI.
