After Subaru, Mazda announces global recall due to faulty valve springs
KUALA LUMPUR: Faulty valve springs are the new trend in the automotive industry these days. Not so long ago it was Subaru who had to recall its vehicles due to faulty valve springs in their motors. This time around, its Mazda, the Japanese automaker who has been hit with the calamity.
Mazda has issued a global recall for around 640,000 diesel powered cars. The 640,000 cars include 410,000 from the global market and around 230,000 from the Japanese market itself. The USA is the only country that has avoided the recall as Mazda does not offer any diesel motor over there.
The vehicles carrying the expected problem are the Mazda3, Mazda2, Mazda6, CX-3 and CX-5. The particular models and the manufacturing years are yet to be disclosed by the automaker.
As we came to know in the Subaru recall, the faulty springs may break down under continued stress. Weird noise from the engine and engine seizures are possible results of the springs’ failure.
The Mazda6 Sedan and the CX-5 are the vehicles in Malaysia that come with a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel SkyActiv-D engine. These are very likely to be a part of the recall if the problem is detected in their motors. Bermaz Auto Berhad, Mazda’s official distributor in Malaysia is yet to make any statement. Only time will tell how much are the Malaysian models are going to suffer.
