Australian-spec Mazda BT-50 refreshed for 2018

KUALA LUMPUR: The Australian Mazda BT-50 has received a facelift for 2018 and is now more mature on the front fascia. But apart from just the front section, there are many other changes that are made inside and around and almost all of these updates are worth a watch.

2018 Mazda BT-50 Rear

The Mazda BT-50 now has a three-slat front grille, as opposed to the one seen on the predecessor. This new front fascia looks like the previous generation of the CX-5. Along with the grille, the front bumper has also been tweaked, with the fog lamps sitting in a pool of black cladding. Also, the headlamps are a tad newer than the outgoing model. However, there are still some physical traits that are carried over from the old model, like the chrome-embellished rear bumper and the tail lights.

2018 BT-50 Cabin

Inside the cabin of the 2018 Mazda BT-50, things have been kept similar to the outgoing version. However, the infotainment system gets a thorough revision. The old system is replaced with an Alpine touchscreen display, which features a smooth interface and equipped with navigation,  Android Auto and Apple CarPlay . The pickup van also has reverse parking camera and chrome sports bar with LED stop lights. Other new features include a heavy-duty bed liner and a central locking tailgate.

Mazda BT-50 Engine

Powering the Mazda BT-50 (Australia spec) is a 2.2-litre diesel and a 3.2-litre diesel, both having a turbocharger each. The smaller engine variants ride on 150 hp power and 375 Nm torque. On the other hand, the bigger motor is capable of making a huge power of 200 hp along with a humongous torque of 470 Nm. The power is sent down to the wheels via a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox. Both the engine versions are offered with optional AWD (all wheel drive) mechanism.

The Malaysian-spec of the Mazda BT-50 has similar engine specifications on offer. However, there isn’t any update on whether there would be a facelift for 2018 or not. Chances are, the company may consider making the facelift later this year.
