Check out the magnificent Ford GT ‘64 Prototype Heritage Edition
KUALA LUMPUR: The upcoming Monterey Car Week is getting a must-visit event by the automotive enthusiasts by the day. After knowing about the new Lamborghini Countach’s arrival at the fest, we now hear that Ford GT ‘64 Prototype Heritage Edition will be joining it too along with several other amazing cars.
This particular Ford GT is a tribute to the model’s five original prototypes, the first of which was unveiled at the 1964 New York International Auto Show. The Ford GT ‘64 Prototype Heritage Edition will be showcased alongside the car’s fifth & final prototype, the GT/105 at Pebble Beach and The Quail.
The GT/105 is one of the three remaining prototypes that still showcases the original black-white livery. The upcoming Heritage Edition will be seen in a similar tone.
In the past, Ford has introduced several Heritage Editions of the new GT. For instance, the ‘66 Heritage Edition honoured the GT40 MkII that Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon raced at 1966 Le Mans. Then came the ’67 Heritage Edition that celebrated the GT40 MkIV that won the 1967 Le Mans. Next was the ’68 Gulf Livery Heritage Edition that paid tribute to GT40 Mk1 that won 1968 Le Mans. Not to forget the ’69 Gulf Livery Heritage Edition that honoured the
GT40 won the 1969 Le Mans. Last year, Ford announced the ‘66 Daytona Heritage Edition which is currently in production and pays tribute to a GT that won the 1966 Daytona 24 Hour Continental race.
All the above-mentioned GT’s were limited edition models, though Ford has not specified a number for the ‘64 Prototype Heritage Edition, the automaker has announced that it is “available to order for approved Ford GT customers”. The production is scheduled to commence in January.
What about its looks? Well, the outer body features ‘Wimbledon White’ with ‘Antimatter Blue’ graphics along with carbon wheels finished in a dark shade of blue. The cabin carries forward the same white/blue/black theme with everything either upholstered either in black/blue Alcantara or black leather, or exposed carbon.
