Chevrolet brings new SUV with old name, the 2019 Blazer
KUALA LUMPUR: Chevrolet reincarnated an old model name and gave it to a midsize 5-seater compact SUV. The company has even said that it would be slotted between the Traverse and the Equinox models for the North American market.
This new SUV is the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer and will be taking on the likes of Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Ford Edge. The car will also have a top-end Premier variant, along with a RS version. The top model will have a unique grille along with a lot of chrome additions while the sporty RS trim would be getting distinguishable black elements.
On the exterior side, there are HID headlamps, LED tail lights, integrated tailgate spoiler, and dual exhaust tips. The car would ride on 18-inch alloy wheels as a standard fitment while the top-end Premier and RS would run on 21-inch units.
The inside would feature a lot of tech-related additions, like the wireless charging facility, six USB ports, and an electronic lock glove box. On the dashboard, there would be an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting both Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto along with LTE.
Also, there is something interesting on the rear end, that is, the cargo space of the Blazer. There is a cargo management system, which includes cargo fences and rail system that would help secure small items. Fold the rear row and one would get a huge 1,818 litres of cargo hold. The boot lid is a power gate and can be opened without using the hands.
Mechanically, the new 2019 Chevrolet Blazer would be offered in a total of two engine option. The smaller unit is a 2.5-litre motor which can make a maximum power of 193 PS along with a peak torque of 255 Nm. The bigger 3.6-litre motor is a V6 engine which is capable of making a huge 305 PS of power and 365 Nm of torque. The power will be sent down to either the front wheels or all the wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
