Facelifted Hyundai Ioniq unveiled
KUALA LUMPUR: With the start of the year 2019, Hyundai has previewed the facelifted version of the Ioniq. The cars here in the focus are the Inoiq Hybrid and the Ioniq Plug-in hybrid. The two hybrids have been given a midlife update and both of them are equipped with Hyundai SmartSense. Along with a new front and rear bumper, the facelifted Ioniq also gets the trademark cascading mesh grill from Hyundai. Other new additions include the redesigned LED headlamps and taillights along with revised fog lamps. Now available in a total of 8 paint finishes, the new colors made available are the Fluidic Metal, Electric Shadow, and Liquid Sand.
Moving inside the Ioniq, we see a brand new 10.25-inch Audio Video Navigation system which comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Hyundai LIVE Services along with voice recognition. Placed below the large screen are the revised glossy HVAC controls. The facelifted Ioniq models will still be housing the same powertrain as before. While Ioniq won’t be able to provide a range like the Kona which comes with an impressive 415 km in one go. The current Ioniq Electric which can take you for a ride of around 200 km on a single charge is set to run for much longer now.
An electric motor capable of producing 120 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 295 Nm is found on the Ioniq Electric. The power is stored in a 28 kWh lithium-ion battery. This battery pack can be charged to full in 4 hours and 25 minutes. With the new update, the range of the Ioniq Electric could offer up to 300 km or even more. Adjustable regenerative braking is found on the petrol hybrid siblings of the Ioniq. The generative braking can further be adjusted using the paddle shifter provided inside the cabin.
As we mentioned before, the facelifted Ioniq features Hyundai SmartSense safety suite. Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Keep Assist (LKA), and Driver Attention Alert (DAA) along with other disclosed features are part of the package. The new Ioniq also features the world’s first Green-zone Drive Mode (GDM) for more contribution to the environment. One-pedal driving capability, Smart Regenerative Braking, and Utility Mode also make their way to the Ioniq. The second half of 2019 will see the updated Ioniq in the European markets.
