Ford mistakenly confirms seventh-gen Mustang’s launch in 2022
KUALA LUMPUR: Ford, by mistake, has confirmed the launch of its all-new Mustang in 2022. This time, the news has not been leaked through a spy shot or an informer, but it came to light through a job post on LinkedIn by Ford itself. We might see the first-ever hybrid Mustang in 2022, as the news seems apparent in line with the confirmation Ford declared back in 2018 on a new model.
Around four weeks ago, Ford posted the job on LinkedIn stating, “Be part of the proud team to deliver Ford and Lincoln quality on the current model Mustang (S550) and be the final sign off on the Ford 2023 Mustang S650 vehicle program before it goes to the customers.” Ford also mentioned job responsibilities in the post. The candidates “will have primary responsibility for delivering Wind/Road Noise and Air Leakage and work with a strong team of other Ford PVT engineers at the plant as well as supporting the V11/V12 VFG in Dearborn as needed.”
For those who are not aware of the terms like V11, V12 etc., ‘V’ refers to the components in Ford’s internal coding. For example, V44 refers to the engine, while V47 and V48 could be manual and automatic transmissions, respectively.
One thing we can be ensured about, the current model, the sixth-gen Ford Mustang will be in the market for another two years. As the seventh-gen or S650 expectedly to arrive as a 2023 model in 2022. Speaking of the current model, it was launched for the 2015 model year as a part of the “One Ford” business plan. Along with it, Ford sold 72,489 Mustangs last year and Mustang became America’s best-selling sports car for the fifth time in a row.
Unfortunately, there is no detail of S650, not even the powertrain configuration. All we can expect, the pony car will come with ‘V8-like performance’. Apart from the performance, it is also expected to share the CD6 platform with Ford Explorer.
