Get ready to meet Hyundai Staria on the 9th of July
KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai’s next-gen multi-seat van, the Staria is all set to make its ASEAN debut with Thailand hosting an event soon on the 9th of July 2021, 7 PM Bangkok time. Also, it will be the first country in the region to get this new Hyundai van. Interested individuals will be able to join the premiere via Facebook Live.
The Staria van will be coming in as a replacement to the long-running Starex whose origin can be traced back to 2007. With the entry of this highly capable van, the Thai landscape would get another option against the widely seen VW Caravelle, Toyota Hiace, and the fully-imported Toyota Majesty.
The currently selling Hyundai Starex H-1 is imported from Indonesia. Also, the Korean automaker has invested around USD 1.5 billion (RM 6.2 billion) in Indonesia, to expand its presence in this and the overall ASEAN region.
Hyundai’s first ASEAN manufacturing hub has a capacity of 150,000 units and it is expandable to a quarter of a million vehicles annually in the future.
As multi-seat vans like the Starex/Staria mostly target the tourism industry, their sales are suspected to fall this year as well. Why? This particular sector has been heavily hit by the global pandemic.
Furthermore, with offices being closed and work-from-home directives in place, the sales of these multi-seat vans are suspected to further reduce.
