GST rebate makes MINI cars more affordable

KUALA LUMPUR:  BMW Group Malaysia has revised the prices of MINI cars. This move comes after the present-day Pakatan Harapan government abolished 6 percent GST until new tax scheme takes effect. The new prices hold valid from June 1, 2018.

 

As per the member and head of the government’s council of eminent persons, Tun Daim Zainuddin, a new tax scheme named SST (sales and services tax) requires around a couple of months to be ready and applied. Till then, GST has been completely removed, making cars more affordable than before. It is a great opportunity for customers to buy new cars in the tax-free window, which seems to extend for a period of two to three months.

The GST rebate on cars has impacted the prices of MINI cars in a significant manner. The John Cooper Works Countryman is now up for grab at RM329,180.89 as opposed to earlier RM348,888. While the Cooper Clubman’s price has been reduced by RM11,750.83, making it a worthy deal at RM196,137.17.

It is important to understand that GST is charged only on the selling price of a car and not on the registration essentials including vehicle registration fee, road tax, and ownership endorsement fee - they remain GST-free. Thus, you might encounter a slight variation in the percentage of the price being deducted than the stated 6 percent flat.
