GST zero-rated: Mazda prices down by up to RM17k from June 1

KUALA LUMPUR: Keeping one of their major campaign promises the Pakatan Harapan government last week made a big announcement of rolling back the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Currently, the GST stands at 6% which will be nullified effective June 1, 2018. Following the announcement, a lot of dealers have recently released the new price list of models without the GST. The official Mazda distributor Bermaz also released a list of Mazda models with their latest prices (excluding GST).

The new prices will stand official until GST is replaced by the Sales and Services Tax (SST). There’s still no confirmation regarding the date on which SST will be fully implemented, however, according to Tun Daim Zainuddin, head of the government’s Council of Eminent Persons, it will take somewhere around two to three months. That said, customers looking to buy a Mazda car have a great opportunity to get it at a discounted price.

 

One can save a minimum of RM4,221 on the cheapest Mazda 2 mid spec, while the savings go as high as RM16,784.29 on the CX-9 AWD. The CX-9 2WD gets the second biggest saving of RM15,864.29. The price is reduced by RM7046.96, RM7,216.77 and RM11,535.24 for Mazda 3 Sedan, Mazda 3 Hatchback and Mazda 6 Touring respectively.

Although the 6% GST has been completely done away with, the new on-the-road prices (excluding insurance) are not exactly 6% lesser. That’s because GST is calculated on the sales price of the car to which other price components like road tax, registration fees and ownership endorsement fee are later added on(without GST) to calculate the final on-the-road price (excluding insurance).

Bermaz has also decided to cut-down the Mazda model lineup on offer and has removed the base BT50 2.2 manual. Only the high-spec 2.2 manual version is now up for sale which gets cheaper by RM6,028.82 following the GST rollback.
