Honda HR-V - Key highlights

Honda HR-V - Key highlights

Honda HR-V has been providing decent sales figures to Honda in the compact crossover SUV segment in Malaysia for quite some time now. And after the recent update in 2019, the HR-V has become that much better than its outgoing model. It now gives a tougher competition to its rivals.

Available in a total of four variants - 1.8L E, 1.8L V, 1.5L V Hybrid, and RS - Honda HR-V price starts at RM 108,800 for its base model and goes all the way up to RM 124,800 for its range-topping RS trim. So in that price range, what good does the Honda HR-V provide? The following are some of its key highlights.

Stunning performance

Powering the HR-V is Honda’s 1.8-litre -VTEC SOHC engine which has been tuned to churn out a max power of 142 PS at 6500 revs and generate 172 Nm of peak torque 4300 revs. These are some healthy figures and can be felt while driving the HR-V. Enthusiasts might get irritated with the CVT but Honda has provided the solution to the problem they itself created - paddle shifters.

For those who don’t know, the HR-V also comes in a Hybrid variant that has a combination of a 1.5-litre petrol engine that puts out 130 bhp and 156 Nm, and an electric motor which generates 30 bhp and 130 Nm. Also, the transmission is a 7-speed DCT. However, many people are still very sceptical about hybrid cars. What’s your take on it? Let us know in the comments.

You have to agree that the Honda HR-V is one of the best-looking cars in its segment. Honda has done a fantastic job with this one. At the front, we are welcomed by a pair of gorgeous LED headlights that are accompanied by LED DRLs. Honda has also added a set of LED fog lamps to complete the front lighting. Even at the rear, the combination lamps are full-LED units. Some of the other interesting exterior elements are-

  • Honda’s signature front grille
  • Dual-tone alloy wheels
  • Sporty rear door handles

  • Subtle character lines on the doors

Class-leading space

We must say that even after being a compact crossover SUV, Honda HR-V has a really good amount of interior space. Honda claims that it has a class-leading space that can accommodate all of its occupants without any discomfort. Also, the seats can be folded in numerous ways - utility mode, long mode, tall mode - which allow fitting in different types and sizes of luggage. Coming to the boot space, it is indeed big and its low floor and wide opening makes loading and unloading effortless.
