Hyundai collaborated with Rhizome for digital art exhibitions
KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai’s art and culture initiatives have long-standing associations with some global art organizations, like Tate Modern (UK) and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (U.S.). And now the company teamed up with Rhizome of the New Museum, again in the U.S. to tap digital art technologies. As per the agreement, both entities will be supporting innovative digital art endeavors and exhibitions over the next two years.
The first exhibition of the creative forces named ‘World on a Wire’ will be premiered on January 28, 2021, simultaneously at the Hyundai Motorstudio in Beijing and on the ‘World on a Wire’ official website.
“World on a Wire” is a group exhibition that explores artistic practices related to emerging digital technologies like virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence. It explores the possibilities and poetics of computational simulation and presents the artist-made synthetic life forms.
The gallery exhibitions will be held at Hyundai Motorstudio locations across the globe on the following dates:
- Hyundai Motorstudio Beijing - January 28 - April 5, 2021
- Hyundai Motorstudio Moscow - April 1 - July 4, 2021
- Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul - May 7 - August 8, 2021
Wonhong Cho, Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience Division at Hyundai Motor stated, “Hyundai’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’ has always driven everything we do. Our partnership with Rhizome reflects this guiding principle, and we hope this initiative inspires and uplifts those with a passion for creative arts, especially in these difficult times.”
Founded in 1996, Rhizome is a leading art organization, which is affiliated with New York City’s iconic New Museum since 2003. It is dedicated to digital art and culture and has played an integral role in the development of art engaged with networked technologies, and in the exhibition of experimental and leading-edge digital art.
According to Lisa Phillips, Toby Devan Lewis Director of the New Museum, “Rhizome’s expertise in identifying digital art trends meets an ideal partner in Hyundai Motor Company.” The collaboration will provide online and offline spaces to visionary artists and creators, which will showcase their distinctive talents.
