Hyundai Ioniq grabs 5-star rating in NCAP crash test

KULA LUMPUR: Once again the all-new Hyundai Ioniq has grabbed the maximum crash test safety rating of five stars by Euro NCAP.

All the three versions - the Ioniq Hybrid, Electric, and Plug-in Hybrid versions have obtained the 5 five star rating.

Vice President Marketing and Product of Hyundai Motor Europe HQ, Andrea Christoph said, “This five-star award from Euro NCAP shows that our strategy of offering safety features in smaller classes and also in combination with alternative drives is the correct one. The New Hyundai IONIQ is a very modern vehicle concept that has everything the customer needs.”

When it comes to the safety and protection of young and adult occupants or pedestrians, the new Hyundai Ioniq sets definite standards in all Euro NCAP evaluation criteria - and that too not only within its own segment but in comparison to the cars halling from a segment above.

Hyundai’s Ioniq lightweight and stiff body and chassis complement its passive safety kit. It’s high-strength alloy wheels ensure optimal energy absorption - theses innovative steel wheels account for 53 percent of the car’s overall structure. In case of an accident, the passengers are protected via a total 7-airbags that includes a driver’s knee airbag as well.

However, preventing accidents from happening at first place Hyundai has equipped the new Ioniq with SmartSense safety kit that includes technologies that anticipate potential risk scenarios. The car comes fitted with safety elements like Forward Collision Avoidance Assist that warns the driver in risky situations, the system activates when a pedestrian or another vehicle appears in front of the car. The Lane Keeping Assist feature comes as standard that makes sure the Ioniq within the lane markings. Other safety gears like Rear Crossing-Traffic Warning and Blind-spot Collision Warning are offered as optional features.
