Hyundai Malaysia to launch two new cars on October 30

KUALA LUMPUR: Good news folks! Hyundai Malaysia has announced the launch of two new models - the 8th generation Sonata sedan and Kona compact SUV. Due to the pandemic, the South Korean automaker has decided to conduct a virtual launch of the two upcoming models. All-new Hyundai Sonata

The 8th gen Sonata is completely re-imagined with a sensuous new design with an appealing, coupe-like character. The sedan's style sparks more than just emotions. Part of its innovative design kit is an innovative feature like the gradient hidden light technology adding to the sedan's mystique. Also, reinforcing its high-tech image is a full-LED headlight and LED rear combination lamps.

Also included in new Sonata's standard feature list are -

  • Keyless entry & push start
  • Cooled Qi wireless charger
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Powered seats with driver's side memory function
  • Auto-dimming rear-view mirror
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Rear air-con vents
  • Auto lights and wipers

Under its elongated and well-creased bonnet rests Hyundia's Smartstream 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine making a maximum power of 108 PS along with a peak torque of 232 Nm. The said mill sends power to front wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox.

 All-new Hyundai Sonata REAR

Hyundai has fitted the Sonata with world-class safety features like the Blind Spot View Monitor (BVM) that allows for a safer lane change by alerting the presence of unseen vehicles. The BVM image gets displayed on the 12.3-inch gauge cluster, also its 50-degree field of view surpasses the coverage of the ORVM. It also gets six airbags and stability control.

On its arrival in the local market, the Sonata will compete with the likes of Mazda 6, Toyota Camry, and Honda Accord.

All-new Hyundai Kona

The Kona is soon going to be the latest addition to the company's SUV lineup. Its design theme is no less than being purposeful, it's individualistic and distinctive. The confidence the Kona showcases via its looks sets it apart from every other SUV in the class. Part of its appealing and bold exterior are sleek LED light units with one-of-a-kind details and daytime running light. The Kona's strong SUV DNA is also supported by rear LED lamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, and much more.

On the inside, the car is fitted with layers of technology that makes the drive comforting and convenient. With features like Head-Up Display, satellite navigation, wireless charging pad, and Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity. Further adding to the list is a 7-inch touchscreen display, 8-way adjustable driver seat with 2-way lumbar support, fully automatic climate control, and auto cruise system.

The SUV will be offered in two engine choices, both petrol. One being, a 1.6-litre T-GDi unit making a maximum power of 177 PS at 5,500 rpm and 265 Nm of torque at 1,500 to 4,500 rpm. Another is a bigger 2.0-litre MPi Atkinson mill developing 140 PS at 6,200 rpm and 180 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The 1.6-litre unit is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the 2.0-litre Nu MPI mill is paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The Kona SUV benefits from the brand's SmartSense active safety pack that includes lane-keeping assist, AEB, high beam assist, and adaptive cruise control. All Kona variants get six airbags.

Priced at around RM 110,000, the Kona on arrival will give a tough competition to cars like Proton X50, Mazda CX-3, Toyota C-HR, and Honda HR-V.
