Hyundai to bring Tucson N with 340 hp power in the near future

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai is reportedly looking to launch the Tucson N within the time frame of next two years. The car will join the manufacturer's N performance line up, which currently has the Veloster N and i30 N that was showcased at 2018 KLIMS, and also the forthcoming i20 N.

The Tucson N is expected to have a more powerful engine than the standard model with the mill pumping out 340 hp power. So, it is pretty clear that the engineers will modify the mill to extract the extra power. As an example, its stablemate, the Veloster N is capable of churning out up to 275 hp of power and peak torque is 353 Nm. However, we aren’t sure yet how the Tucson N will be able to deliver 65 hp more than the Veloster N.

The Hyundai Tucson was launched last year and has two engine trims. The standard variant has a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre engine, which can produce up to 164 hp of power along with 151 Nm of peak torque. The bigger engine is a four-cylinder, 2.4-litre unit that can make181 hp of power along with a peak torque of 237 Nm.

It is also said that the manufacturer will add a new halo car in the N division range that will proclaim its intent. The automaker has not spoken about the vehicle’s platform yet, but it will get a four-wheel drive version with some serious makeover from the i30 N’s gearbox.

Hyundai has taken the N cars segment seriously as it claims that it is not interested in making the also-ran cars having N badges and slightly tweaked engine.

Hyundai is likely to launch the G70’s high-performance version soon. The top-spec variant of the sedan has a 3.3-litre, twin-turbo, V6 engine that can churn out 365 hp of power. The engine features rear wheel drive mechanism or an optional all-wheel drive.
