Mazda to introduce MX-30 later this year
KUALA LUMPUR: To be introduced as a fully imported (CBU) model, the Mazda MX-30 will be introduced in the country by the end of the ongoing year, according to a report by AmInvestment bank. The report further hinted at the MX-30 coming from the CKD assembly by 2021, possibly due to the fact that the government has exempted the locally-assembled electric or hybrid vehicle from the excise duties.
Along with the MX-30, the other model that is expected to be produced locally is the CX-30, which was recently introduced in the country in CBU guise. Its CKD assembly at the Kulim plant could commence in 2021, as per the report.
The report also revealed that Inokom, the manufacturing associate of Berjaya Auto will infuse an investment of RM 200 million to increase the annual production capacity from 30,000 to 80,000 units of the Kulim plant. All to expand the brand’s CKD models range in Malaysia.
Mazda MX-30 is the brand’s first fully electric vehicle that was unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. It is built on the SkyActiv-Vehicle Architecture that also forms the basis for the CX-30 and the Mazda 3.
Under the hood, the MX-30 gets a single electric motor and a 35.5 kWh battery pack, which supports both, AC as well as DC charging. The setup is capable of churning out a max power of 143 PS and a peak torque of 264 Nm. It is claimed to travel 209 km on a single charge. There is a range-extender version too, which according to the company will hit showrooms at a later stage.
Dimensionally, the MX-30 measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,655 mm.
