Mercedes-AMG GT four-door revealed prior to Geneva debut

KUALA LUMPUR: The four-door variant of the Mercedes-AMG GT coupe-sedan, which is scheduled for its global debut on March 6 at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show, has been spotted on the internet. The official image has been posted on a car news portal just a day ahead of its unveiling

After the GT S, GT Roadster, and GT-R, the AMG GT four-door will be the fourth member of the AMG GT family. The leaked image reveals that the styling cues of the new Mercedes-AMG GT four-door have been influenced by the AMG GT series while the cabin looks somewhat identical to the new generation CLS and E-Class premium executive sedans.

The car upholds some of the AMG-style design elements of its two-door counterpart - the muscular lines, rounded Panamericana front-grille, bug-eye shaped LED headlamps, LED DRLs, muscular front bumper with chrome highlights. However, the car gets a bit shorter bonnet. At the rear end, the car gets a pair of sharp wraparound LED tail lights, a new aero spoiler, chrome-finished quad exhaust pipes and a diffuser. It runs on multi-spoke AMG alloy wheels.

The manufacturer has not revealed much about the interior yet. But, it is expected, Mercedes has configured the four-door AMG GT with a four-seater layout and included a host of smart features. The car gets the signature flat-bottom steering wheel and high-end instrument cluster.

Moving on to the engine specs, the new AMG GT four-door sedan is likely to be equipped with a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine under the bonnet, the power outputs will further be revealed at the Geneva event. There could possibly be an additional plug-in hybrid variant on offer, which will make around 800 hp. The car will be offered with the automaker’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

The AMG GT four-door sedan will probably be seen as a virtual replacement of the CLS63 AMG. Once launched, it is expected to go head to head with the contemporary models from Audi, Porsche, and BMW.
