Mercedes-Benz adds new safety features on GLC SUVs

KUALA LUMPUR: The reintroduction of the SST (sales and service tax) has brought good news for the prospective buyers of Mercedes-Benz. To go along with the new tax slab, the German luxury automaker has made changes in its lineup of the GLC SUVs, bringing new safety features.

Another important thing to be noted here is that the Mercedes-Benz GLC is slated to have a facelift coming and will be unveiled anytime soon. Here, both the GLC 250 4Matic from AMG Line and the standard GLC 200 has received the Blind Spot Assist. Plus, the AMG model also gets Lane Keeping Assist.

However, there is still one bit of the quality to be considered. The Lane Keeping Assist offered here can just warn the driver in case any deviation is detected and not provide any assistance. This advanced quality is only offered in the Active Lane Keep Assist.

Apart from just the addition of the two safety features (one, in the case of the GLC 200), everything else seems to be identical to what was already offered. Mechanically, there is the same 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor that makes 184 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque in the GLC 200. However, the same engine is tuned to make 211 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque in the higher GLC 250.

As for the transmission, there is a 9G-Tronic (9-speed) automatic gearbox offered in both. And while the GLC 200 only gets a rear-wheel drive, the 250 gets the 4Matic AWD mechanism.

However, with the addition of the feature, these Mercedes-Benz GLC SUVs have even registered a slight bump in the price. With SST being 10% now, the 200 is now RM1,000 more expensive and costs RM293,888 OTR without insurance. However, the 250 has seen a bigger hike of RM4,000 and is now priced at RM333,888.
