Most powerful V8 engine confirmed for new Shelby GT500
KUALA LUMPUR: The 2020 Ford Shelby GT 500 made its global debut back in January 2019, however, back then the performance specs of the car were not revealed. And it was said to be something special is underway with prominent figures. Well, Ford has now finally announced new Shelby GT500’s under the hood configuration.
According to Ford, the car gets the most power- & torque- dense supercharged production V8 engine in the world. The hand-built 5.2-litre supercharged V8 unit offers a maximum power of 760 hp along with a peak torque of 847 Nm. Thus, with this, Ford fulfills its promise to provide its new muscle car with ‘700++ horsepower’.
The 2020 Shelby GT500 mill is said to use the GT350 5.2-litre V8 at the initial phase. For this to happen, a supercharger pumps-up the unit, and there’s no longer a flat-plane crankshaft. The power is sent to the wheels via 7-speed dual-clutch transmission system.
As for its performance figures, Ford’s brand new muscle car can cover a quarter mile in sub eleven seconds. Its top-speed is limited to 290 kmph.
The GT500 also offers four exhaust modes, allowing the driver to choose the perfect sound for the car. These sounds vary from an extremely aggressive option to a rather docile setting. Thanks to the noise canceling system, the onboard passengers only receive a more pleasant sound.
Apart from the potent mill, the Ford engineers have also paid a lot of attention towards the Shelby GT 500’s aerodynamics. Speaking of which it gets a revised front fascia that improves the engine cooling capacity by 50 percent. There is also an optional Carbon Fiber Track Package that brings along carbon fibre wheels, thick bolstered Recaro seats, and a large rear wing that makes 227 kg of downforce at 161 kmph.
This supercar from Ford is said to go on sale this summer, and the price tag is yet to be revealed by the company.
