Peugeot 3008 Plus - Full Details
After much waiting, the all-new Peugeot 3008 Plus was finally launched in Malaysia in August of this year. The 3008 made its international debut back in 2008, with the current-day avatar appearing some eight years later in 2016. The new car is built on a Peugeot-Citroen developed EMP2 platform, something it shares with its elder sibling - the 5008 Plus, as well.
Compared to its first-gen predecessor, the new 3008 Plus boasts a larger footprint and now encompasses more advanced technology among other things. In our nation, the newly-launched Peugeot 3008 Plus goes up against the likes of the Renault Koleos, DS 7 Crossback, Honda CR-V, and Nissan X-Trail.
But, what else do you get when you purchase a brand-new 3008 Plus? Well, Peugeot Malaysia is currently offering the compact crossover SUV with complimentary access to the SkyLounge at the Subang Skypark and free 24x7 Peugeot Assistance as well. Of course, customers of the new 3008 Plus will also benefit from a comprehensive 5-year/120,000-kilometre manufacturer warranty plus a free service package for up to 3 years.
Speaking of offers, how much does the all-new Peugeot 3008 Plus price tag reads in Malaysia? Here’s a variant-wise breakdown for your reference…

In Malaysia, the Peugeot 3008 Plus is only available with one engine option - a 1.6-litre four-popper that’s armed with a twin-scroll turbocharger, putting out 165 horses and 240 Nm of shove coming in from just 1,400 revs. On-duty in the transmission department is a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, which channels the motor’s grunt to the front wheels exclusively.
The 1.3-tonne 3008 Plus can get itself from a standstill to 100 kmph in less than 9 seconds, eventually topping out at an indicated 205 kmph at the higher end. However, despite its size and decent performance capabilities, Peugeot engineers have still managed to massage the 3008’s powertrain to deliver a smidgen north of 14 kmpl (in tests, of course).

The new Peugeot 3008 Plus is a pretty well-designed and stylish crossover - it is neither too obnoxious nor lame in any way shape or form. The front end of the 3008 Plus sports an upright face which wears a wide chrome-laden grille with the ‘Lion’ right in the middle, while swanky dual-barrel headlamps bring in a dose of aggression and flamboyance.
The 3008 Plus also gets aggressive-looking, sculpted front bumper which appears beefy but stylish, thanks to its chrome fog lamp surrounds, sizeable air-intake vents, and a chic-looking silver fake skid plate arrangement.
The muscular but sophisticated look extends to the sides where there are black body claddings, flared fenders sporting 18-inch alloy wheels, stylish chrome trimmings, and an elegant lower-window line.
The rear of the new 3008 Plus features what the French carmaker refers to as their “claw effect” LED tail lamps -- going hand-in-hand with these fancy lights are the 3008’s sporty roof spoiler, and a chunky rear bumper with its integrated dual-exhaust pipes pretty much finish things off here. Overall, the all-new Peugeot 3008 Plus is one of the most debonair and classy crossovers this side of RM 200,000.
So, it is a good-looking crossover SUV, but what about some of its most prominent exterior features? Well, here’s a list for you to glance over…
- Automatic full-LED headlamps with LED fog lamp units up front
- Acoustic front windshield with rain-sensing wipers
- Sequential LED front turn indicators
- Auto-folding & heated door mirrors
- Panoramic glass roof
- Power tailgate with hands-free operation
- Rear fog lamps
Peugeot 3008 Plus interior
With a dedicated family transporter such as this one, fancy exterior styling can only do so much - it is the interior’s job to take the mission further. Thankfully, the Peugeot 3008 Plus certainly doesn’t seem to disappoint on this front, either. At first glance itself, this cabin comes across as interesting yet sophisticated, well-equipped and sporty yet luxurious.
The most highlighting visual features here come in the form of a driver-oriented cockpit which adds to the sporty and cocooned feel in the 3008. Then there’s the quirky-looking and so-called squircle-shaped steering wheel,
a 12.3-inch fully-digital instrument console, sporty but well-cushioned seats, aircraft-inspired toggle switches, joystick-like gear selector, while the ‘stepped’ dash layout with silver accents and contrast stitching add even more character.
As far as build quality and the selection of material is concerned, Peugeot has done a fair and decent job by keeping much of the low-rent plastics (mostly) out of reach. The rear bench is just as comfortable and one shouldn’t have to faff about too much here, even if all three occupants are adults. Then there’s the rear vent to keep things cool and breezy.
In terms of practicality and ergonomics, this cabin offers a flat floor for rear occupants, LED mood lighting to banish any gloom, one-touch folding rear seats, at least 11 litres of stowage cubbies, and front & rear USB charging ports. Finally, there’s 591 litres of minimum boot space - increasing to a cavernous 1,670 litres with the rear seats folded. Overall, this is a pretty well-sorted and comfortable place to be in during your travels.
On top of all that, here are some of the other noteworthy comfort and convenience features in the new Peugeot 3008 Plus specs sheet…
- ·8-inch touchscreen infotainment head unit with GPS navigation, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink and voice recognition
- Customisable driver’s gauge with four display modes
- High-fidelity, 3D-stage sound system by Arkamys
- Automatic dual-zone climate control
- Full-leather upholstery
- Multi-way, power-operated front seats
- Electronic parking brake with auto-hold feature
- Auto-dimming rearview mirror
- 5 Drive modes via Peugeot’s Advanced Grip Control
- Front & rear parking sensors with a surround-view camera system
Peugeot 3008 Plus safety equipment
Like many of its modern European brethren, the all-new Peugeot 3008 Plus is bristling with some top-tier safety features. While it has all the usual stuff such as anti-lock brakes, tyre pressure sensors, ISOFIX seat anchors and seatbelts with pre-tensioners & force limiters, here’s some of the more juicy stuff:
- 6 airbags (dual front, front sides and curtain)
- Anti-skid Regulation (ASR) with Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
- Hill Start Assist (HSA)
- Hill Assist Descent Control (HADC)
- Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
- Driver Attention Alert (DAA)
- Blind Spot Information System (BSIS)
- Active Lane Keeping Assist (ALKA)
- Speed Limit Recognition
- Anti-whiplash front-seat headrests
Peugeot 3008 Plus key competitors
The all-new Peugeot 3008 Plus is arguably one of best cars in its segment on several fronts (such as safety equipment, convenience features, build quality, cabin comfort & practicality), but it is definitely not without some staunch rivals in our country.
From Japan, there’s the Honda CR-V and Nissan X-Trail leading the pack. Meanwhile, from French soil itself, you have options such as the DS7 Crossback and the slightly larger and quite new Renault Koleos. So if you choose to ditch the Peugeot, which one of these capable cars should you select?
Well, if you aren’t budget-restricted and want even more pizzazz, there’s the uber-stylish DS7 Crossback. However, if you prefer to not stand-out everywhere you go but don’t want to travel small - you could look at the newly-refreshed Koleos. Of course, there are the heavyweight titans from the Land of the Rising Sun, too.
Peugeot 3008 Plus problems
As I see it, there really isn’t much wrong with the new Peugeot 3008 Plus, at least when viewed as a whole package. However, if you are on the taller side, you may find it hard to find just the right seating position as that slim digital instrument cluster could be blocked (partially) from full view. And if you are quite short, then the squircle steering wheel may come in the way of the same.
