Peugeot restarts manufacturing in Europe with strict safety protocols
KUALA LUMPUR: As the governments started easing the coronavirus restrictions in Europe, many automakers across the continent are reopening factories and resuming production. And it is the same case with the Peugeot Group which had slowly resumed its partial operations earlier this week. In the matter of employees’ health, the firm says that strict safety protocols have been imposed for their protection.
With the consultation from health services, an adequate number of measures have been taken at the Peugeot Group production sites across Europe. It covers the use of individual transport in possible conditions, provision of mask and sanitizers, temperature checks at the entrance, social distancing, and regular sanitizing of tools and works surfaces. Moreover, it is decided to keep the doors open all the time so that contact with the handles can be avoided.
Besides the implementation of these protocols, the automaker has also appointed “Protocol Referents” who are responsible for monitoring whether the new safety measures are followed or not. Their role is not restricted to only checking, but they will also implement the remedial actions when needed. The firm says that these next-level steps are required for the safety of employees as the virus is still around and may infect them.
Speaking about the other automakers, the supercar manufacturer Lamborghini has resumed its production plant in Italy from May 4 and has also showcased a new model after that. Ferrari has also restarted its Italy-based factories from May 8. These firms are following all the precautionary measures to ensure the safety of its employees. Other automakers such as Volkswagen, Renault, Toyota, Jaguar Land Rover, and Mercedes-Benz are also reinstating their manufacturing plants in the continent.
In line with the government-imposed regulations, the automakers have halted their production sites and facilities in Europe last March due to Covid-19 outbreak. It was a necessary step for protecting the health of the employees. And now, when the companies are resuming operations, they are taking extra safety measures so that their employees can be safe until things get back to normal.
