Porsche Taycan price, variants revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: Porsche is a step closer in launching its first fully electric car, the Taycan. The car will be launched in three variants and pricing will start from USD 90,000 (RM 3,74,157). According to an email from the company’s official brand ambassador to The Drive’s columnist Alex Roy, the would-be customers are signing up for deposit money to place order of the sports car.

Roy, who has also signed up as one of the customers for the upcoming Porsche electric car, has received an update revealing the name of three models - the Taycan, Taycan 4S, and Taycan Turbo.

The tag ‘Turbo’ on the last trim may appear as a mystery, as a fully-electric car certainly has no use of a turbocharger. It seems to be used to indicate the highest performance variant of the Taycan.

Talking about pricing, the Taycan comes as a costlier option than its competitor, the Tesla model S. The Taycan and the Taycan 4S will go on sale with prices ranging between $90,000 to $1,00,000 (RM 3,74,157 to RM 4,15,730) and the Taycan Turbo will be sold for over $1,30,000 (RM 5,40,449).

“We are expecting to see the new model in about one year from now. Porsche is going to build three models — the Taycan, the Taycan 4S, and (the) Taycan Turbo. Pricing will start in the low $90,000 for the Taycan, high $90,000 for the 4S, and over $130,000 for the Turbo before options.” Said the official statement.

Based on the previous statement made by Porsche, the Taycan features two Permanently Synchronous Motors (PSM), which can provide a total output of more than 590hp. Reportedly, it can achieve from 0 to 100 kmph and 200 km/h within 3.5 secs and 12 secs, respectively.

The vehicle can offer a range of 500 km on a single charge. It also comes with a fast-charging 800V system, which provides a range of 100 km after four minutes charging. As there is no official news to confirm this statement, it is expected the Taycan Turbo is likely related to this level of performance.
