Proton Saga making way for Geely re-badged car

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton-Geely partnership is running strong as ever with the X70, 2019 Iriz, and brand-new Persona being the most vital examples. Now, both the companies are further working on restoring other models in the Malaysian carmaker’s lineup like the Proton Saga. The sedan is shortly going to withdraw to make way for a Geely re-badged car. Also, there is no confirmation yet from Proton on the same. You can expect the Malaysian-born brand to declare its plans soon and provide us with some data on the upcoming cars - on top of our mind is Proton X50, followed by new Saga and Exora as well.

Talking about the outgoing Saga, it was launched by Proton 3 to 4 years back, and it is still considered as a reliable sedan. The most attractive thing about this sedan is its ultra-affordable price tag of RM 35,568 - RM 44,342.25. Proton offers the Saga in three trims- Standard, Premium, and Executive. The powertrain features a 1.3-litre VVT mill that puts out a maximum power of 94 hp and a peak torque of 120 Nm. The motor is coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox in the base variant, while the rest get a CVT transmission. When driven sensibly, it can deliver an exceptional fuel economy of 18.54 kmpl and also gets an ECO Drive Assist indicator.

The car’s safety kit includes two SRS airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX points. The rear seat can be collapsed to provide a luggage capacity of 420-litre. Everyone is now eagerly waiting for Proton to launch the all-new Saga with Geely’s design, mechanical inputs and tech.
