Proton X70 introduced in Brunei; will be exported from Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only a few days back when we informed about the Proton X70s’ export plan to Bahrain and East Europe. However, the SUV has been first launched in Brunei where PAD Motors would handle its distribution. Thus, making Brunei the first export destination of the Proton SUV.

In Brunei, the Proton X70 will be offered to the customers in three trim options - base Standard 2WD, mid-tier Executive 2WD, and the range-topping Premium 2WD. All the three trims are powered by a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged and direct-injected petrol engine. The said mill churns out a maximum power of 181 hp along with a peak torque of 285 Nm, and it is coupled to a 6-speed automatic gearbox that transmits power to the front wheels.

The Brunei-spec X70 features the Geely Smart Ecosystem - an Android-based infotainment system that comes with an 8-inch TFT LCD touchscreen, voice command responding to ‘Hi Proton’, and MirrorLink connectivity for Android smartphone.

The standard safety kit includes six airbags, hill descent control, hill hold assist, ABS with EBD and BA, traction control, auto brake hold, ESC, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

The mid-tier and range-topping trims get an around-view monitor with the latter offering a suit and Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) as well. Part of the ADAS are features like - Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC), Automatic Emergency Brake (AEB), Door Opening Warning System (DOW), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

In the Brunei market, the Proton X70 will be offered in five exterior paint finishes - Flame Red, Snow White, Cinnamon Brown, Jet Grey, and Armour Silver.

According to Rully Septiadi, Proton Edar Indonesia’s head of marketing, Indonesia will be the next stoppage of Proton X70.
