Subaru Viziv Concept Tourer - Is this the next-gen Levorg?

KUALA LUMPUR: Subaru is currently showcasing its vision for its next generation of cars through its line of concepts under the name of Viziv (shortened from “Vision for Innovation”. Blame Subaru’s penchant for unfortunate portmanteau mashups) since 2013. Through its many different interpretations, this lineup has showcased everything from the bonkers concept for Gran Turismo to a massive SUV in the form of Viziv 7 which even became a real car in the form of the 2019 Subaru Ascent. Then there was the Viziv Performance Concept that was seen in the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show and might turn out to be the next WRX or STI.

The newest entrant in this lineup has just been teased. And by the looks of it, seems to be a wagon or possibly even a crossover. The picture released by the company does not reveal much - some swanky lighting and sculpted bodywork with a high rear and what appears to be a long roofline. The Subaru has decided to call it the Viziv Concept Tourer which does give the idea of long-distance touring - associated more with station wagons than crossovers. Subaru also has a long and illustrious history of making very popular wagons in the past. After the Forester and the Outback, the Levorg (a portmanteau of three words, LEgacy, reVOlution, touRinG).  Launched in 2014, the Levorg has been liked a lot. As far as design studies go, we can’t say much and will have to wait till a better picture is revealed. Or at least till March 6 when it will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show.  

This is the sixth vehicle to be revealed in the Viziv lineup. As can be evidenced from this very lineup, being a Subaru, there is a high chance that it will make a transition from yet another concept to an actual car. Subaru likes its station wagons and we love Subaru’s station wagons, be it the Forester, the Outback or the Levorg. And in today’s world being assaulted by crossovers, a station wagon from Subaru will indeed be a welcome sight.
