Toyota and Lexus car prices slashed across board in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Toyota Motor, the distributor for Lexus and Toyota cars in Malaysia has reduced the prices by a fair margin. This price reduction comes in the wake of the GST abolishment by the Malaysian government.  Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd confirmed that Toyota will be working for the best interest of its customers and has decided to pass on benefits of the new tax structure to the buyers. This, in turn, mean all cars from the Lexus and Toyota stables will cost six percent lesser than before. Starting from June 1, 2018, the revised prices will come into effect.  

A quick check and calculation reveal that cars with a higher base price tend to benefit more. Whereas, those with a lower base price tend to get smaller revisions. While buyers can enjoy the new lower price of the cars, the cheer may not last long. The government of Malaysia plans to introduce SST at a later date, due to which the prices are expected to go up again.
