Toyota C-HR: Features explained
The Toyota C-HR was surely one of the most anticipated vehicles before it was launched in Malaysia. There are many reasons for this. But the main one, probably, is the way this car looks. Toyota wanted to leave a strong impression with the C-HR, and we are happy to report that it has succeeded in it. In fact, after having a look at the C-HR you might feel that the other Toyota Malaysia models are a bit outdated. Here are some of its interesting features explained for you guys.
Exterior features
Headlights
The headlights are the most attractive element at the front of the C-HR. Toyota decided to design the headlights in such a manner that both the units cover most of the space available. This not only makes the C-HR stand out from the crowd but also eliminated the need of putting up a large front grille. The headlights are automatic units of bi-halogen bulbs and have follow-me-home function along with a set of LED daytime running lights.
Side mirror puddle light
The outside rear view mirrors of the C-HR are automatic folding and also feature puddle lights. The LED puddle lamp projects the logo of the vehicle on the ground whenever you unlock the car. This is an interesting feature which adds to the overall premiumness of the car.
Distinctive rear styling
The rear of the Toyota C-HR is as eye-catching as the front. However, we feel that Toyota might have overdone a bit here. Yes, the design looks very modern. The tail lights are not flushed with the body of the car, rather protruded out and carry their own style. There is a roof-mounted spoiler for the added sportiness. We can also see a tiny spoiler between the tail lights. But overall the rear is something which you will either love or hate.
Interior features
Diamond theme
Toyota has incorporated a diamond theme design all over the cabin of the C-HR. You will notice this design on the dashboard buttons, doors, door sills, speaker grilles, and even on the head or ceiling liner. This is a nice touch and makes you feel like you are sitting inside a much more premium car.
7-inch touchscreen infotainment system
The C-HR specifications features a 7-inch touchscreen display that takes care of your entertainment needs. It offers smartphone connectivity, Bluetooth, WiFi, USB, HDMI, and an internet browser. The audio is emitted from a 6-speaker setup. The screen also shows you the view behind the car while reversing.
Stylish and informative instrument cluster
The instrument cluster of the Toyota C-HR is quite stylish. It is very well designed. It has fonts that are clearly and easily legible. The background light is blue in color which enhances the readability of the numbers. There is also a 4.2-inch color Multi-Information Display (MID).
Electrochromic rear view mirror
To help you drive without any distraction at night, Toyota has provided the C-HR with an electrochromic rear view mirror. This is a handy feature that makes driving in the dark much comfortable. Whenever a bright light from the rear is detected by the mirror, it automatically darkens itself to reduce the glare.
Performance features
Engine and transmission
Powering the Toyota C-HR is a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine that churns out 140 PS of max power at 6,400 revs and generates 171 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 revs. It is optimized for providing superb driving performance and improved fuel efficiency.
The engine comes mated with Toyota’s 7-speed automatic transmission with Super ECT. It has been constructed to offer smooth and seamless gear shifts, high performance, and economy.
Driving modes
The C-HR comes with three driving modes - Sport, Normal, and Eco. Like the names suggest, the Sport mode sharpens up the throttle response. The Normal mode is tuned for everyday use and provides the best combination of performance and efficiency. And the Eco mode is obviously meant to extract out that much more from the engine in terms of efficiency.
Safety features
The Toyota C-HR boasts of a 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating for adult safety. It has many safety features like 7 airbags, Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control System (TRC), Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC), Front & Rear Parking Sensor, Electronic Parking Brake & Auto Brake Hold, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), etc.
The car is based on Toyota’s TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform that offers more stability, agility, and safety.
These were some of the interesting features in this car. Toyota CH-R price starts at RM 137,299 and comes in 5 color options - White Pearl, Attitude Black Mica, Blue Metallic With Black Roof, Metal Stream Metallic and Red Mica With Black Roof.
