Toyota Land Cruiser with hybrid powertrain likely to come in August 2020

KUALA LUMPUR: The new-gen Toyota Land Cruiser is already a highly anticipated model and the internet is full of a lot of speculations. But we have got some new details about the model, in fact, a report shared by bestcarweb.jp that allegedly says that the new model would be coming out in August this year with a hybrid powertrain option.

As per the report, the new Land Cruiser will be powered by a 3.5-litre V6 hybrid setup capable of pumping out a max power of 299 PS and a peak torque of 356 Nm, mated to a CVT instead of the old 6-speed automatic gearbox. It will be a four-wheel-drive model as before. Clearly, as the report suggests, the old 4.6-litre V8 petrol unit will be replaced that produces 317 PS of power and 460 Nm of torque. There are no details about the diesel V8 engine, whether Toyota will retain it or replace it.

As far as design is concerned, the new Cruiser will come with an all-new look from the outside as well as inside. The front is likely to get a new trapezoidal grille design like the other newer Toyota models, whereas the cabin will get either two or three rows of seats. Toyota Safety Sense tech will be included on the Crown and Alphard variants.

Other than these, the Japanese publication reports that the big SUV will feature Toyota’s TNGA platform like the other new Toyota models. We can’t really be sure if Toyota will be using this platform or not because the report also read that the Cruiser will feature a ladder frame design, raises eyebrows for sure.

As August 2020 is the likeliest month for the reveal of the next-gen Land Cruiser according to bestcarweb.jp, we don’t have to wait for long for the official details and release statement from the automaker. Till then stay tuned with us.
