Toyota recalls several models over Takata airbag issue
KUALA LUMPUR: Approximately 41,000 Toyota cars are recalled by UMW Toyota Motors, all concerning to the Takata airbag issue. The automaker will be replacing the airbag inflator in all the models recalled. The cars involved were a part of an earlier Takata airbag inflator recall and were repaired between 2014 - 2019. Certain vehicles in the said lot got a non-desiccated airbag inflator from Takata.
Under the current Toyota recall, those non-desiccated airbag inflators will be replaced with an improved unit. As per the automaker, the cars affected under the said issue were manufactured between 2001 - 2013.
Part of the affected model list are -
- Toyota Vios - Mauncatured between May 2003 to August 2007 & September 2007 to July 2013
- Toyota Corolla Altis - Manufactured between July 2001 to July 2007
- Toyota Camry - Manufactured between June 2002 to Dec 2005
- Toyota Yaris - Manufactured between Jan 2006 to Aug 2007
The owners of the affected vehicles will receive official notice from the company. Also, the airbag inflator replacement cost would be entirely born by the automaker.
