Two new Mazda SUVs arriving soon in the US market
KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda will reportedly launch two new SUVs for the US market very soon. And one of these will be the next-gen CX-3, which was teased recently. It is rumoured to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2019. The other one would be an entirely new model, to be built in Huntsville, Alabama, where the manufacturer’s new plant is currently under construction.
The Japanese auto giant, Mazda, has three crossovers on offer in the US market, including other models. The Mazda 3 is available in two versions - sedan and hatchback. Generally, the carmaker offers only three core models for almost all of its international markets - the CX-3, CX-5, and CX-9. Moreover, the CX-8 and the CX-4 coupe for China are the two other models that add on to the envious crossover segment.
Masahiro Moro, the North American Operations CEO of Mazda said at the Chicago Auto Show that the company is working on a new crossover SUV for the North American market. To be specific, the company has been already finalising the concept. However, he did not reveal any more details about the model. He also added that the manufacturing process at the Alabama plant would start from 2021 with a production capacity of 15,000 units.
As per the reports, it is expected that after the addition of the two new crossovers, Mazda US sales will get a big boost. These two SUVs will do what the CX-5 has been doing, that is accounting for more than half of the company's total sales. The CX-5 achieved a sales count of 150,622 units in the previous year, while the total units sold were 300,325.
