Volvo Malaysia to impose 180 Kmph speed limit on its cars
KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo, known for manufacturing the safest cars across the globe, is all set to impose 180 Kmph speed limit on all its cars in Malaysia. This is a proactive measure to prevent severe injuries and safeguard occupants. The speed cap will be soon introduced here but by when the company plans to execute its plans is still unknown.
In 2008, Volvo made a bold promise that nobody should be killed or severely injured in a new Volvo car by 2020. With plans to impose a speed limit on its cars, the company seems to be moving towards realizing its goal. There is no denying the fact that speeding is prevalent in the country and is one of the common reasons for injuries and accidents on the road.
According to the company, at high speeds, in-built safety technologies are not enough to avoid fatalities or serious injuries in the event of an accident. Hence, it becomes essential for the company to take some proactive measures to safeguard occupants inside the car despite the driver’s negligence.
One of the Volvo Cars’ safety expert, Jan Ivarsson said, “As humans, we all understand the dangers with snakes, spiders and heights. With speeds, not so much. People often drive too fast in a given traffic situation and have poor speed adaption in relation to that traffic situation and their own capabilities as a driver.”
For unawares, Nils Bohlin, a Volvo engineer known for designing the V-type 3-point safety belt sixty years ago, did not monetise his invention rather shared the patented design to rivals for mass adoption and saving more lives.
Volvo has prospered significantly in the last decade or so, seeing a transformative era of marvellous car launches with avant-garde safety and convenience features that are powerful, comfortable, luxurious and of course popular.
