Volvo PHEVs to come with 8-year battery warranty
KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo Car Malaysia has announced that all its PHEV models will now come with an 8-year battery warranty. Currently, the company sells four PHEVs in the country, including the XC90 T8 Twin, the S90, the S60 and the XC60. Volvo has launched the facelift version of the S90 and locally-assembled S60 recently.
This move of Volvo has put it on par with the Japanese brand, Honda, which offers an 8-year warranty for hybrid battery packs. BMW and Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, offer 6-year/100,000 km warranty for their plug-in hybrid batteries.
While the rest of the cars in the Volvo line-up come with standard 5-year/120,000 km warranty, the PHEVs will come with an 8-year battery warranty. This also makes the Swedish brand a leader in its segment in terms of the offered warranty.
All the four PHEV Volvo models are powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged and supercharged engine, which when combined with a rear electric motor produce a collective power of 407 PS and a peak torque of 640 Nm.
The models like the S90 and the XC60 come with a 10.4 kWh li-ion battery pack, whereas the newer PHEVs, the XC90 and the S60 get a bigger battery of 11.6 kWh that’s capable of making the cars travel around 50 km in all-electric mode.
