5 Safety essentials you should always keep in your car
Our cars today gloat about some of the best safety gadgets and features. However, when it comes to saving one’s life (including yours); how safe can one be? You can never foresee an accident or your car breaking down in the middle of nowhere. Adding on to the set of problems is the fact that help might not arrive as quickly as we would want it to. Even if help does arrive on time in a few situations, it is a sticky situation to be in nonetheless!
This is why you should know how important it is to be prepared for any situation! It is true that you might not be able to prevent such a situation from arising, but you can always be prepared to tackle it more tactfully. We have listed a few things that you must always keep with you in your vehicle to help you survive till Roadside Assistance reaches you in the part of Malaysia you are in:
1) First-Aid Kit
The first and foremost thing that one should keep not only in their car, but also in their houses, workplaces, etc. is a first-aid kit. Make sure it is packed with cotton, gauze, tape, a pair of scissors, bandages, Dettol, antiseptic cream and pain relievers. Keep all these items in a distinctive bag after organizing them properly such that in a frenzied situation it is easy to find what you are looking for. These items can be very helpful in treating any minor wounds or in slowing down any external bleeding that has happened before the arrival of an ambulance. Moreover, you can always consult your family doctor or local drugstore to inquire about all the items you should keep in the first aid kit in your vehicle.
2) Fire Extinguisher
We do not mean to scare you by making you think about the possibility of a fire breaking out in your car. However, it is a common fact that a fire can start in a car without any consideration of the time or location. This can be because of an engine that gets overheated, a short circuit or because of the brakes. This is why we would advise you to keep a fire extinguisher handy with you at all times to prevent the fire from spreading and causing any additional damage to your car or the people inside it. You should consider purchasing an extinguisher which is between two to four pounds. Remember to check its expiry date before purchasing the fire extinguisher and consider where to place it in your car such that it can be accessed easily.
3) Window Breaker
We are sure you might have heard car doors and windows getting jammed after an accident. This makes it nearly impossible for the inhabitants to get out of the vehicle. A solution for this is to keep a window breaker with you, which is like a hammer with a sharp tip that is useful in breaking the tempered glass. A few breakers also come with a knife that is used to cut one’s seat belts. Keep your eyes protected while jumping out of the window and wipe any glass shards from the edges to keep you safe from getting hurt.
4) Reflective Safety Vest and Early Warning Device
Another important safety equipment that one should keep is a reflective safety device and an early warning device. In case your vehicle breaks down, you can wear this vest and place these devices on the road such that other cars can notice you coming from a distance and adjust their speed accordingly. Looking at the warning device, they can also get down to help you.
5) Phonebook
Lastly but equally important, one should keep a phonebook with all emergency numbers listed in it. In case you or the authorities cannot access your mobile phone to connect to your family, a phonebook always comes in handy. You should also list the numbers of the Malaysian Police and Roadside assistance such that passerby’s who come to help you can dial these numbers from their cellphones to get you the assistance that you require.
Like the popular saying goes, “It is better to be safe than sorry”. Possessing these safety devices in your car might come to your help and end up saving your life in the case of an accident.
