Big developments taking place in the two-wheeler segment
KUALA LUMPUR: The year might be ending but big developments are under the process that will prove fruitful in the time to come. Apart from the development of new and advanced car technology and better electric cars and scooters, there are more powerful engines for scooters and motorcycles. And today we will focus on the latter section.
For instance, Colove, a Chinese OEM manufacturer is currently developing a 400cc inline-four engine which could potentially trigger a rise of small-displacement supersport in the country. Compared to its Japanese counterparts, Yamaha FZR400, Honda CBR400RR, and KAWASAKI ZXR400, whose four-inline makes around 60 hp, the Colove power unit generates 74 hp at 13,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 44 Nm at 12,000 rpm. Thus making the latter the most powerful 400cc engine ever.
As per sources, the engine’s large bore and shorter stroke allow it to rev higher than its 400cc ancestors. Also, the reports suggest that this new Colove engine will make its debut early next year.
Overall, this new engine and its impressive figures are pure evidence of the Chinese motorcycle industry’s rapid growth pace.
Moving on, Piaggio and Zongshen are working on a new 150cc scooter engine. And like their previous collaboration, this one too will hopefully prove fruitful.
This new engine, aka, G150S, could soon make its way to Europe and Asia and is said to churn out a maximum power output of 15 hp along with a maximum torque of 14.9 Nm.
To its advantage, the G150S is compatible with several modern-day features like idling stop, keyless start, and silent start.
Like the Colove 400cc mill, this one too is scheduled to arrive early next year.
