The most affordable max-scooter from Yamaha, the NMax, shares much of its mechanicals with the NVX and a few other 155cc offerings from the Japanese manufacturer. The Yamaha NMax was recently updated in 2024, which saw the scooter receiving mild design tweaks. A more comfort-oriented entry-level maxi-scooter from Yamaha, the NMax is available in the Malaysian two-wheeler market in a single variant, which is priced at RM 9,498 and can be had in one of the two colour options on offer – Magma Black and Sky Blue.

Yamaha NMAX Design
The latest feature updates introduced in the Yamaha NMax in 2024 have made the entry-level maxi-scooter fresher and fancier than before. On the other hand, the overall maxi-scooter design of the NMax has remained unchanged, though there was nothing much to complain about from the elegant-looking design language of the NMax.
The tallish front profile of the Yamaha NMax has a huge and curvaceous front apron, which now gets a tweaked headlamp setup at its lower part. Now featuring a revised arrangement, this headlamp setup gets a centrally placed LED projector that is flanked with eyebrow-shaped LED DRLs and LED turn indicators on the outer edges. There is another LED projector placed above the main projector for added illumination in darker riding conditions.
The Yamaha NMax looks quite substantial from the side too, exhibiting its maxi-scooter profile to the fullest with the large and swooping central tunning between the floorboard. The wide side body panels further enhance the sense of size, and so do the large 13-inch alloy wheels and the massive exhaust pipe shared with the NVX.
Like the front profile, the tail section of the Yamaha NMax has also been tweaked in the recent update. The tail light assembly of the scooter has been restyled, which now gets sleeker LED lights in split fashion. The scooter has a massive pillion grab handle, with it also sharing the airbox and radiator with the NVX.
With a wide and split, colour-coded handlebar like a traditional maxi-scooter, the Yamaha Nmax has a small full-LCD instrument console with a blue backlit theme. This display unit is pretty basic, with it only getting a speedometer, fuel gauge, odometer and trip meters, and has turn indicator signals on its sides. With limited information, small size, and a basic layout, this display looks a bit outdated, and doesn’t go well with the overall updated and modern design of the NMax.
NMAX Ride & Handling
Apart from the engine, the Yamaha NMax also shares its conventional backbone frame, the telescopic fork at the front, and the dual-sided hydraulic coil springs at the rear with the NVX. However, the suspension has a more comfort-oriented softer setup, and that is reflected in its plush ride quality, which is a stark contrast with that of the NVX with which it shares its platform. A large part of that added comfort also goes to the different sets of wheels and tyres – 110/70-13 front and 130/70-13 rear. The Yamaha NMax also gets a 290 mm disc at the front and a 230 mm drum at the rear – the same as the NVX.
Yamaha NMAX Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Yamaha NMax shares its four-stroke, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 155cc engine with the NVX, though the engine here is in a different state of tune to match the comfort-oriented positioning of the NMax. Paired with a conventional CVT, this liquid-cooled engine produces a maximum power output of 15.4 PS and a maximum torque output of 14.2 Nm. The slightly higher torque output than the NVX makes the NMax a punchier scooter in the midrange.
NMAX Braking & Safety
The Malaysian-spec Yamaha NMax comes with the convenience and security of a keyless ignition, but it misses out on the crucial addition of ABS.
