Foton launches first Chinese-brand light truck with AMT in Malaysia at MCVE 2026

KUALA LUMPUR: Angka-Tan Motor Sdn Bhd (ATM), the authorised Foton truck distributor in Malaysia, has officially launched the Foton Aumark S Euro 5 AMT at the Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Expo 2026 (MCVE 2026).

The truck carries a notable distinction: it is the first light-duty truck from a Chinese brand sold in Malaysia to come fitted with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).

For fleet operators running urban delivery routes, that matters. Stop-and-go city driving is hard on both the vehicle and the driver, and the AMT is there to take some of that strain off.

Under the hood is a Cummins ISF 3.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, now tuned to Euro 5 emission standards. It puts out 154 PS at 2,600 rpm and 500 Nm of torque between 1,200 and 1,900 rpm. Power goes to the rear wheels through a ZF six-speed AMT gearbox.

On paper, the combination of the Euro 5 engine and ZF transmission is aimed at keeping running costs down through longer service intervals and better fuel figures. There is also a practical workforce angle here: ATM notes that the AMT setup lowers the barrier for drivers who are not comfortable with a manual gearbox, which opens the door to a broader hiring pool.

The truck itself is sized at 6,930 mm long, 2,060 mm wide, and 2,250 mm tall, with a 3,800 mm wheelbase. Gross vehicle weight runs between 7,500 kg and 9,900 kg depending on the configuration.

Safety kit includes ABS, Anti-Slip Regulation for wet or slippery roads, and Hill Start Assist to stop the truck rolling back on inclines. The cab structure is built to ECE R29 standards, which is an international benchmark for occupant protection. Foton says the Aumark S has been put through more than 3,000,000 km of real-world testing across varied conditions.

The Aumark S Euro 5 AMT is part of what ATM is calling its AMT portfolio, which also includes the Foton Auman R Euro 5 AMT, a heavy-duty truck introduced in November last year. The idea is to bring the same transmission upgrade across both the light and heavy segments, giving fleet operators a consistent driving experience whether they are running urban deliveries or long-haul freight.

Beyond the new AMT models, ATM's current range also includes the Foton eAumark for operators who need a fully electric option, and the Foton Bus for passenger transport.

The launch also marks 15 years of ATM operating as the Foton distributor in Malaysia.

The Foton Aumark S Euro 5 AMT is priced at RM128,800 and comes with a six-year or 300,000 km warranty. All Foton vehicles in Malaysia are covered under the Foton Total Care package, which runs through Tan Chong Group's service network.

This gives customers access to nationwide servicing and genuine parts. Operators can also sign up for TC Trust, a service agreement aimed at managing total cost of ownership for fleets.

Other support offerings include driver training, a one-stop repair and insurance service, and a 24-hour Res-Q roadside assistance line.
