Volvo Buses Malaysia introduces new Euro 5-compliant B11R chassis

KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo Buses Malaysia has rolled out its latest bus chassis, the Volvo B11R, marking a key upgrade to meet the Euro 5 emission standard — a global benchmark for cleaner and more efficient engines.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What makes the Volvo B11R special?

It’s a new Euro 5-compliant bus chassis with cleaner emissions—up to 80% lower than older Euro 3 and Euro 4 engines. It also includes Volvo’s Driver Safety System with features like automatic emergency braking, lane keeping, and collision warnings.
  • When will it be available?

The B11R will be available in Malaysia from early 2026, with local production and delivery already in place to meet operator demand.
  • Set for release in early 2026, the new chassis promises better fuel efficiency, stronger durability, and higher safety standards. Volvo says the B11R’s advanced exhaust control system cuts emissions by up to 80% compared to Euro 3 and Euro 4 engines — a move that aligns with Malaysia’s growing push toward sustainable public transport.

Volvo Buses Malaysia General Manager Marcus Mak described the launch as an important milestone for both the company and local bus operators.

“The B11R is poised to be a game changer. With its state-of-the-art technology, those opting for this chassis will very quickly find out that they have an asset on their hands that will enhance their bottom line. Passengers today recognise Volvo for safety, and they will surely be wanting to be travelling in the safest way possible,” said Mak.

Beyond its cleaner engine, the B11R is packed with active safety systems under Volvo’s Driver Safety System (DSS) package. The suite includes Collision Warning with Emergency Brake (which automatically stops the bus if the driver fails to react), Forward Collision Warning, Cruise Control, Lane Change Support, and Lane Keeping Support. Together, these systems go beyond current regulatory safety requirements.

Mak also highlighted the importance of having skilled partners in assembling buses on the new chassis.

“Without competent and reliable coach builders, we would not be able to deliver on our promise to the market,” he added.

Volvo Buses has long been synonymous with safety innovation, being the first to introduce features like the three-point seat belt and lane change support. The B11R continues that legacy, aiming to protect not only passengers and drivers but also other road users around buses in daily traffic.

With production already in motion, Volvo Buses Malaysia says it is ready to meet market demand through an efficient delivery network. The introduction of the Euro 5-compliant B11R represents Volvo’s commitment to cleaner, safer, and more efficient transportation in Malaysia’s evolving public transport landscape.
