PRO-NET expands EV charging network in Malaysia - more chargers for your smart EV

KUALA LUMPUR: Amidst an electric vehicle boom in Malaysia, PRO-NET has announced that they have expanded their EV charging infrastructure. This expansion includes new charging stations strategically located across the country, enhancing access and convenience for EV users nationwide.

PRO-NET's latest expansion involves the addition of six direct current (DC) chargers, resulting in twelve new charging bays equipped with dual nozzles. These installations include chargers of different capacities—50 kW, 60 kW, 100 kW, and 120 kW. This brings the total to twenty-two bays when combined with the previously existing chargers at PRO-NET's smart dealership network.

Alongside the expansion of their physical infrastructure, PRO-NET has also decided to update its Hello smart App to take advantage of the chargers, which now shows real-time availability for over 70% of public charging stations, a move aimed at reducing range anxiety for EV drivers.

The current expansion covers several states across Peninsular Malaysia and is poised to extend to East Malaysia, specifically Sabah, indicating PRO-NET's plan to widen its reach further.

It should be noted that while PRO-NET's chargers are open to various EV brands, certain locations like the Hap Seng dealer facilities remain exclusive to smart and Mercedes-Benz owners.

The expansion by PRO-NET reflects a straightforward response to the growing market demand for electric cehicles in Malaysia. With increasing awareness and adoption of EVs, the need for more widespread and accessible charging options is clear, and PRO-NET aims to address this gap through both its physical and digital enhancements.

Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET), incorporated on August 16, 2022, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd. PRO-NET is not just introducing smart cars to the Malaysian market; it's also aiming to lead the new energy ecosystem in automotive solutions, hence the expansion of charging networks in Malaysia.

The company is set to expand its product lineup with the addition of the smart#3, having already piqued public interest with a surprise appearance at the recent KL Car Free Day event. 

Like its brother the smart#1, the smart#3 is built on Geely's Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA) platform, measuring 4,400 mm in length, 1,844 mm in width, 1,556 mm in height, and has a 2,785 mm wheelbase. It boasts an aerodynamic profile with a drag coefficient of 0.27 Cd. Inside, the vehicle is equipped with a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Snapdragon 8155 and includes the Smart Pilot Assist, a Level 2+ ADAS package.

Introduced in China in the previous year, the smart#3 comes in four variants: Pro+, Pulse AWD, Premium, and the limited-edition Brabus Performance, which is capped at 1,999 units for 2023. The Pro+ and Premium models feature a single front motor delivering 268 hp, powered by a 66 kWh battery that allows a range of 555 km according to the CLTC cycle.
