KTM 250 EXC-F Review 2024

After revolutionizing the off-road motorcycle scene in 2016, KTM has regularly introduced class-leading off-road bikes in Malaysia. The most compact model of the KTM 4-stroke range, the 250 EXC-F, offers a surprisingly colossal power for its size. Its super compact and powerful engine, along with a lightweight body and fantastic handling, is a perfect choice for not only motivated amateurs but ambitious professional off-roaders as well. The 250 EXC-F features an advanced fuel injection system, which ensures class-leading performance, excellent throttle response, plenty of torque, and controlled power delivery. Moreover, the KTM 250 EXC-F has a lightweight steel trellis frame that contributes to easy handling, inspiring complete rider confidence and riding progression. Durable in-mould graphics convey the ready-to-race character of the sportbike and add to the aggressive rugged looks. It features a digital console that includes a speedometer and a screen to display other vital information. Through innovative R&D efforts and productive partnerships with leading aftermarket brands, KTM is able to offer a variety of optional parts to the customers, like the skid plate, Akrapovic racing line, brake caliper with brake disc guard, etc., which further enhance the aesthetics, functionality, and performance of the 250 EXC-F. At present, the 250 EXC-F is offered in a single variant that retails at RM 44,000 (excluding insurance and taxes). It competes against the likes of Kawasaki KX450F, the Honda CRF250, and the Kawasaki KX250F.

With inputs from KTM’s factory riders, KTM R&D, and Kiska Design, the new bodywork of the KTM 250 EXC-F is far more progressive. It poses a shape that strikes absolute harmony between the rider and the bike and provides optimal contact points to offer maximum freedom of movement and improved handling. The fenders, both front, and rear feature an intelligent I-beam design, assuring maximum stability with the lowest possible weight. Towards the rear, a new taillight design fits perfectly into the refreshed rear fender and the number plate carrier. The new in-mould graphics not only signify the racing character of the bike but also confirms the high-performance intentions.

250 EXC-F Ride & Handling

The 250 EXC-F is equipped with high-strength aluminium tapered NEKEN handlebar that allows for four different positions. Standard features on the handlebars include an ODI vulcanized grip on the right side and a comfortable ODI lock-on grip on the left. It is built on the central-tube frame with a double-cradle, which aids to a stable ride and comfortable drive experience, especially when off-roading. Ultra-mordern´No-Dirt´ footpegs prevent clogging up the pegs and benefit ground clearance. 48 mm WP XPLOR-USD performs suspension duties at the front and WP Xplor PDS shock absorber at the rear.

KTM 250 EXC-F Engine & Fuel Consumption

The KTM 250 EXC-F draws power from the 249cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC mill that delivers class-leading torque and power across the entire power band all the way up to 12,800 rpm. Power is imparted to the wheels through a 6-speed gearbox. With a weight of only 27.9 kg, the engine is the lightest and most competitive powerplant across this range. State-of-the-art Keihin Engine Management System features a 42 mm throttle body with different systems for cold starting and idle adjustment. KTM has equipped the 250 EXC-F with a DS (diaphragm steel) clutch that has a wire-free steel basket and heat-resistant clutch plates. Additionally, the Brembo hydraulic system offers easy and precise clutch modulation throughout the entire operating temperature range. The KTM 250 EXC-F features radiators, mounted close to the center of gravity, match the design of the shrouds perfectly, to achieve the perfect ergonomics. The engine is fitted with the proven electric starter, powered by a super lightweight 2 AH lithium-ion starter battery, which is a great boon for any off-road activity.

250 EXC-F Braking & Safety

Braking is done through a 260 mm Brembo twin-piston floating calliper, disc at the front and 220 mm Brembo single-piston floating calliper disc at the rear. The high-tech Brembo brakes are as hard as you can expect and are perfect for off-roading activities. Riders also have an option to activate Traction Control. This unique feature guarantees efficient traction, mainly in slippery conditions, and can be activated with a push of a while driving. Furthermore, driving modes, like the Off-road and Sport mode, provides better control to the rider.

KTM 250 EXC-F Verdict

The 250 EXC-F goes a long way to show off the best of what KTM has to offer. The new, light steel trellis frame contributes to easy handling, and the powertrain, along with the various drive modes ensures a fun experience while driving off the roads. The engine packs enough punch, and thus the 250 EXC-F is apt for both amateur and pro-off-roading enthusiasts.
