About Yamaha Malaysia

Yamaha Malaysia is one of the country’s oldest running two-wheeler manufacturers. Today, Yamaha maintains several dealerships across Malaysia, including the authorised dealer, star centre, star dealer, big bike, YQS, YGP store, and spare parts stockist. The Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn. Bhd. (HLYM) is the official distributor of Yamaha vehicles locally.

HLYM was incorporated in 1979 in Malaysia. It is a joint venture between Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd. and Hong Leong Industries Bhd. The later holds the majority stake in HLYM and is a part of the diversified Hong Leong Group of Companies. In 1978, Yamaha appointed HLYM as its official franchise holder for CBU and CKD motorcycles and ATVs in Malaysia. In 1979, the RX100 became the first Yamaha CKD street model to be rolled out of the Shah Alam plant.

In the coming years, Yamaha expanded its lineup with the introduction of models like the DT125, Y80, and DX 1000. Also, the production capacity of the plant reached 3500 units per month. In 1988, the 500,000th locally assembled unit was rolled out in grand fanfare. Further, in 1994, Yamaha Malaysia made the commendable achievement of rolling out the 1,000,000 motorcycles.

Moving down the lane, Yamaha Malaysia relocated from Shah Alam to the current 36 acres Hong Leong Yamaha Complex. It houses the company’s main office block, warehouse, assembly operation, plastic injection moulding, spray painting, and even an R&D centre with four factories engaged in press and welding of metal parts. Hicom Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Sdn Bhd locally supplied most of the CKD bike engines. In 2018, 4 millionth unit of Yamaha motorcycle was rolled out, and it was a testament of HLYM’s long-term commitment to deliver a premium quality product that meets Yamaha Motors Co.Ltd. standards.

Toyota HLYM continues its successful journey by continuously investing in new technologies, equipment, and enhancing the skills of its employees. Over time, Yamaha Malaysia has received many awards and recognition including the ISO 9001, ISO14001 (Environment Management System) from SIRIM QAS International and SGS Malaysia/SGS UK and MPC certification by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation and the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Excellence 1st Category award from JIPM for the enhancement of quality, cost, and delivery performance.

Be it moped, automatic, street, or big bikes Yamaha Malaysia has it all some of its mega players are the R24, NVX, Y15ZR, and MT-09.

KKBAM Feb 29, 2020 for Yamaha XMax 250

No doubt it is good in term of quality and performance but it is blardy expensive for majority of Malaysian. Although it is comfortable for highway, it is not suitable to ride in heavy traffic area like middle of KL or PJ where you need a smaller kapcai to menuever between cars. Read More 729

Yonis Aweis Feb 26, 2020 for Yamaha 135LC

The Yamaha 135LC looks best in the back and blue color combo. I own the same color and though it is not in the stealth black color, it does loot that much attractive with its design. It does not have a lot of rough styling elements and looks soberer than most of the mopeds out there. The big wheels make Read More 384

Zulhasif Feb 26, 2020 for Yamaha Lagenda 115Z

I have 3 moped scooters and my favourite is the Yamaha Lagenda 115Z. What makes it the best is the fact that it has a small capacity engine and that offers a higher mileage. It is available at a very small price tag making it very efficient. The 113cc engine makes 9.9 bhp power and 9.9 Nm, which is decent Read More 469

    Mathias Feb 26, 2020 for Yamaha YZF-R15

The YZF-R15 is a sensation everywhere in the world, including Malaysia. I never owned the R15 before the latest generation went on sale. The current generation model is the perfect replica of the bigger R1 and has a performance-tuned engine. I love the addition of VVA technology that offers more linear power and torque all across the rev-range. I can Read More 419

    Rahman Feb 26, 2020 for Yamaha Y15ZR

I would call the Yamaha Y15ZR a moped because of its design. But when you ride it, you will realise it is not exactly a moped but far more powerful than you would normally consider it to be. It is driven by a 150cc engine that produces a good power of over 15 bhp. It also has big wheels, which Read More 1246
