Recent Updates of Yamaha 135LC Super Sport

The Yamaha 135LC Super Sport is one of the oldest underbone bikes that is still being sold in the country. It was launched in 2006 and received a minor facelift in 2016. Later in 2017, Yamaha added a few more colors. But even after all these years, the 135LC Super Sport still performs like a champion. It is powered by a 135 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that produces 11.9 hp and 11.79 Nm at 8500 rpm and 5500 rpm, respectively.

The price of the latest model is RM 6,762 and it comes in 4 color options - blue, red, yellow, and black. All of them bearing striking new graphics. The lightweight of this underbone machine makes it one of the favorites of the locals as it can be ridden in dense traffic and narrow streets with ease. Also, it has a comfortable seat and a large storage compartment underneath.

Ever since its launch in 2006, the Yamaha 135 LC Super Sport has never seen a drop in its popularity. And why would it when it comes with the promise of a high performing cub without extending your budget. This then fits in that high in demand slot just above the 100 cc commuters and below the more performance oriented 150 cc sports kapchais. This slot also makes the 135 LC very cheap for the performance it delivers at just RM 7,068. No wonder then that so many hooligans can be seen and heard on this bike terrorizing other riders and indeed their parents. At this engine size, the Yamaha 135 LC Super Sport doesn’t actually compete directly against anything else. Yamaha gave the 135 LC a minor facelift in 2016 and a new range of colors in 2017. Additionally, the current version does not come with a manual clutch as before. What does it have in store for riders then? Let’s find out.

Starting from dimensions, the bike is 1950 mm long, 695 mm wide, and 1040 mm tall. It has a short wheelbase of 1250 mm and a minimum ground clearance of 130 mm. There are 17-inch 5-spoke  alloy wheels wrapped in 70/90 tires at the front and 80/90 tires at the rear. The facelift has made the bike very stylish, not that it wasn’t stylish to begin with. First off are the new color schemes. Colors like Blue, Red, Black, and Silver make this bike very appealing to youngsters. The Silver paint scheme comes with yellow detailing and rims. The headlight now has LED pilot lights while the front also gets a new chin spoiler. The front profile with the indicators gives it a racy angular look. The taillight also gets a redo with a secondary high mounted brake light. This goes flush with the new grab handle while also increasing visibility for extra safety. The front fairing wraps around the bike’s body like a racy cowl festooned with gills and vents. These make the bike look extra aggressive. Definitely more aggressive than any 135 cc bike has any right to be.

Ride & Handling

The bike is lightweight at 105 kg. There is a monocross suspension in the rear and a conventional telescopic setup in the front. This gives the bike confident handling to carve through city traffic and also the stability for high speeds on highways.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

The aggressiveness is not just in looks either. There is enough grunt in the 134 cc 4-valve single cylinder engine to justify its looks. The engine is carbureted but does use liquid cooling while also using a DiASiL cylinder for better cooling and fuel efficiency. Other enhancements include weight saving and vibration killing forged pistons and a BS carburettor that comes with a throttle position sensor to ensures smooth power delivery. Power from the engine is rated at 11.97 hp at 8,500 rpm and 11.79 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. Power is delivered to the rear wheel through a four-speed rotary gearbox with an automatic clutch. Yes, there is no option for a manual clutch anymore but that should not put a damper on the performance. The bike is meant for sporty performance and has a linked type shift pedal for quick gear changes. Power delivery is swift as can be seen through the antics of the hooligans on these bikes. The mileage is also great with 45kmpl and 4-litre fuel tank giving it a range of nearly 180 km.

Braking & Safety

Thankfully for the riders, the LC 135 does not go cheap with the brakes. The front gets a large 267 mm diameter disc brake with a single piston setup. There is only a drum brake on the rear wheel but braking is sufficient for most purposes.

The Yamaha LC 135 Super Sport lives up to its Super Sport moniker. But you probably already knew that. For its price, the LC 135 does a very good job of bridging the gap between a fuel-efficient commuter and a fun high-performance bike. It is really the best of both worlds.
